<div>Needham — Any time is a good time for apple pie, but this Saturday, Oct. 16 the best apple pie will be chosen at Volante Farms.</div>

<p>Local  celebrity judges, including Greg Reibman, publisher of the  Needham  Times, Dave Becker from Sweet Basil and Robert DeSimone, head  chef of  Spiga Ristorante Italiano, will help decide just who in Needham  has the  best apple pie.</p>
<p>Teri Volante Boardman said that as of Tuesday  they already had 12  contestants lined up for the annual contest and  there will likely be  more signed up by Saturday. Contestants must use  apples bought from the  farm.</p>
<p>“They have to make a 9 inch pie so  everyone gets to have a taste and  contestants have to include with the  recipe, a listing of what kind of  apples they’ve used,” she said.</p>
<p>Along  with winning gift cards from Volante Farms and local restaurants  and  shops, the winner of this year’s Apple Pie Contest will be asked to   come back to judge next year’s contest.</p>
<p>Volante Boardman said she  enjoys a using a mix of different types of  apples when she makes apple  pie, but almost any apple can make a great  pie.</p>
